Cardio Exercise Made Simple

Cardio exercise is sometimes referred to as aerobics. When you are doing an activity that involves the large muscles of the body, such as those in your legs, that increases your heart rate, you are getting cardio exercise.

While getting your heart rate elevated is a good way to strengthen your muscles and burn calories so that you can lose weight, you don’t want to exercise too intensely. If you are working out to the extent that you can’t talk while performing the activity, you need to slow down a bit.

Examples of Cardio Exercise

The following are all examples of cardio exercise:

  • Cycling
  • Jumping Rope
  • Running
  • Swimming
  • Walking

The exercises on the list are ones that can be performed outside. Very little in the way of special equipment is required, and they are relatively easy to incorporate into your regular schedule.

You can also hit the gym to perform cardio exercises. You are getting an aerobic workout when you use these pieces of equipment:

  • Elliptical Trainer
  • Ladder Climber
  • Rowing Machine
  • Stationary Bicycle
  • Treadmill

The wonderful thing about a cardio exercise routine is that you have many choices available. No one activity is better than another.

The important thing is to get your body moving on a regular basis. Not only can being active lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart disease, but it is a great way to relieve stress.

Like all new habits, it may take a bit of time before you get used to being more physically active. Within a short time, you will start to feel better and you may even find that if you skip your workout, that you miss it!

Just start off slowly, especially if you are not used to regular physical activity. Your muscles may be tired after working out, but you want to avoid injuring yourself. Over time, you can increase the length and intensity of your workouts.
